Adding new sights or optics on your rifle or handgun is an excellent way to improve the weapon's accuracy and make it easier to shoot. Most optics systems will require some gun optics accessories to mount them, and getting the right parts for the firearm and the optics is critical to ensure they work correctly.

Mounting Accessories

Of all the gun optics accessories available on the market, one of the most vital is the mounting rings and plates that allow the optics to attach to the gun securely. If the rings and mounts are incorrect, they can loosen over time and affect accuracy and safety when shooting.

Most firearms made today use similar mounting systems, so you have a wide variety of accessories to choose from. If you have a common firearm model, there may be several different mounting options you can use to ensure everything fits correctly.

In most cases, the mounts for the gun and the optics rings are sold individually, so you can choose which mounts you need, and select mounting rings for your optics that fit the barrel of the sight, and mount them to the base you are using. While they are not difficult to figure out, most gun shop owners or associates can help you match the correct parts for your situation if you need if.

Covers And Hoods

Once your new optics are mounted on the firearm, protecting the glass is vital, and there are some gun optics accessories that will make that easier. You can use a set of covers that go over the lenses and are removed when shooting. There are also some covers that can mount to the optics and flip up out of the way, so they stay with the firearm and do not get lost.

There are also soft hoods that you can put over the entire scope or optic that keep water, dust, and bright sun off when transporting the firearm or storing it between outings. For hunting rifles, the flip-up style covers are very popular because they can be closed when sitting on a stand waiting for that big buck to come by and opened quickly, even if you have gloves on.

Cleaning Accessories

Anytime you are using optics on your rifle, you need to take some time to clean the lenses to ensure a clear view through them. Most shops that sell gun optics accessories will have lens cleaning kits that you can purchase, or you can use the same soft cleaning cloths that are available for glasses from most retail department stores.

Using a cleaning cloth treated with an anti-fog cleaner is also a good idea and can help keep your lenses clean on cool mornings in the woods. Be sure to use a clean cloth every time, and your optics will stay sharp and clean so you can see the target clearly.
